Butter is Better
Hi there, I'm Andrea! I am a Pittsburgh-based stay-at-home/PTA-devoted mom of two spunky little girls, ages 9 and 6. I've been married to the love of my life and best friend, Mike, for almost 12 years. In our early days we spent a lot of times in the kitchen together creating amazing meals. These days it's mostly me in the kitchen but Mike is still my biggest supporter and best critic! My daughters have very different eating styles - my youngest daughter will eat just about anything and love it! My oldest daughter.... let's just say it takes her some time to warm up to anything that isn't pasta or candy!
When I first started this blog back in 2012, the phrase "Butter is Better"meant something to me - something completely different than what it means to me today. Back then I would say it when I was cooking and thinking of my Zia Lucia from Rome. She would say "Burro e piu buono" - Butter is better! I started this blog to expand on my culinary skills with the hopes of cooking even a little bit like Zia Lucia. During that time I made lots and lots of cupcakes and sweet treats to fill these pages! All the recipes are still here for when you want to indulge!
In late 2013 I really started to take notice to the way our food is processed, where it comes from and the effects it has on our health and our bodies over the long term. In January 2014 I found the blog, 100 Days of Real Food and read Michael Pollan's book, In Defense of Food. My food philosophy was forever changed. After that, my kitchen pantry received a major update! I wanted to revive this blog to reflect on my new way of eating in the hopes of sharing some information you all may find valuable. As for "Butter is Better", it still rings true! I've learned that butter really IS better than so many fake, processed, butter-like substitutes out there! When it's all said and done, Zia Lucia really did know best!
